Custom fields let you track what matters to your business: deal source, region, product line, renewal date. You can add them to companies, people and deals, and they behave like built-in fields in grids, filters and agents.
Field types
Text: free text, for example "Referral source".
URL: a clickable link, for example a LinkedIn profile.
Date: a calendar date, for example "Close Date".
Single Select: one value from a list you define, for example Region: Northeast / Southeast / West.
Multi Select: several values from a list, for example Products of interest.
Create a field in Settings
Open Settings → Custom Fields. Fields are grouped by Company, Person and Deal.
Add a field under the group it belongs to.
Name it, choose the type, and for select fields enter the options.
Save. The field is now available on every record of that kind.
Custom Fields is an organization setting, so an Owner or Administrator manages it.
Create a field from a record
On any record page, the COMPANY, PERSON and PIPELINE cards each have an Add Field button. Click it to add a value for an existing field, or to create a new field on the spot. Either way the field is created for the workspace, not only for that record.
Fill fields in bulk
CSV import: map a spreadsheet column to the custom field while importing.
Action Bar → Commands: select rows and type "set Region to Southeast".
Claude or ChatGPT: "Set Deal Source to Webinar for every company created this week".
Use fields in views
Click Columns above the grid to show a custom field as a column, then sort or filter from its header like any other column. Save the result as a Smartview, for example "Region = Southeast, stage = active".
Use fields in agents
Agents read and write custom fields by name in plain-English steps. Examples: "If Demo Status is No-show, send the reschedule text." "After the call, fill Demo Summary with the key points." A webhook-triggered agent can map payload fields into custom fields when it creates the company.
Good practice
Prefer Single Select over Text when the answers repeat. Filters and agents are more reliable with fixed options.
Keep a short list. A dozen well-used fields beats forty empty ones.
Archive fields you stop using rather than deleting the data behind them. Archived fields disappear from records but can be brought back.
